Horizions Explorations is a community-based program which operates using a community-based monthly programming schedule that applies a learn-see-do model to a weekly theme. Participants start and end their day at the program site. 

 

The majority of the programming day, individuals engage in various community outings that center around engagement with community members, volunteering, and other learning opportunities. In addition to themed activities, participants may engage in activities that cultivate physical and emotional health, or explore new ideas and concepts of interest. 

 

The Horizons Explorations program is located in an area which includes various local businesses and retail centers. This location provides supported persons the opportunity to become regulars in the own community. By being immersed in a retail area, supported persons build relationships with community members. 

 

When people are active in their community, taking a coffee break at a coffee ship located nearby, stopping at the neighboring store to pick up some needed items, people with disabilities are seen for what they are - regular people enjoying extraordinary lives.
